Discrimination of women
So why do all religions do have this fun in discriminate women? Never seen a female Imam, the catholic folk doesn't even allow female priests and the Jews try to protect their women from their orthodox brothers in belief, so they don't allow them to pray where the men are. This is so silly! How about the Buddhist? What do they to discriminate their women? I'd bet some ancient Buddhist found a way to join the club, or? It's so sad. I mean, I grew up catholic. My mom went to church every saturday and I was with her. I was allowed as a ministrant (we were a very modern Church municipality) and I did it for seven years. Yes, I like the catholic ceremonies, the candles, the mystic and all that, but when I got older, so at 14, 15, I started to feel as a woman and I could no longer actively support a church which discriminates women so much like the catholic church does. Wondergirl is not christened (yet) and she will of course not be a catholic. We'll try lutheran for her, since Mr. Lilli is lutheran. But at least she should deciede for herself. I mean, my complete roots are in this christian-shaped societiy so I will educate her with christian beliefs, but I will never ever tell her rubbish about the virgin mother or this stuff. I'll likely tell her about the christian people who occupied the old german and other gods and goddesses and kinda made them to Saints. So the character of Mary has so many parts of the old celtic Goddess and stands for the female part of religion that I will maybe tell her about that, instead teach her to take the Bible word by word.

A bit on guns
Well, when I read this, it seems to me that if more guns are allowed, criminal people will use them. When they are not allowed, less criminals will use them. Does anyone wonder why I think to forbid guns is a good thing? Thx to Rollberg for the link.

Hamburg
A well known international animal rights group has offered money for schools (in form of vegetable-petties) if the city of Hamburg, New York, will be renamed into Veggieburg. Actually that's what Zogbyblog reports with a link to a Buffalo newspaper. So maybe some people will be surprized that Hamburg NY is named after the german city Hamburg. It's one of the three biggest german cities and should be about 1000 years old (don't argue for one or more centuries, it's just to make clear that it's really old to US standards). Its name surely has absolutely nothing to do with Ham or burgers. Its name comes from the first in 832 mentioned "Hammaburg", "Burg" means Castle and "Hamma" could mean something like "restrained" or "obstacle" in thge ground like a hill or something like that. If you're interested in the Hamburg history, you can find much stuff about it here, but you have to use your babelfish or other translating tool. Or if you want to know something about the actual city, you'll get it here. That's an english link. Hamburg has something in common with any american citie - it never belonged to the roman empire. Hamburg was one of the big stations, people went on the ships to emigrate to the USA. So many of the european imigrants knew Hamburg. So we think it's pretty funny, that something which is perceived as the typical american food is named after a german city. But who knows, maybe they'll rename it into freedom-burger or something like that, now?

UK day
Seems to be UK day today. It's all the Group Captains fault by posting this picture yesterday. As he knows very well, I like the area and also his little hometwon pretty much. Of course also, because it means holiday for me, when I'm there. This year there won't be time or occasion to hop around, so all I have is to read the British newspapers and look with a deep sigh at my Calendar with pictures of the whole country. Even if there were time, I'm not sure if we should travel to the UK at the moment. You know, we're usually going by car and with Wondergirl at the backseat. And while it was also in the past that I was greeted with an oh-so-funny-meant" Heil Hitler" when someone got my accent, I'm not sure, what might happen right now and you can imagine that I really want to spend my holidays without discussing the Iraq-war and the german position with strangers. But well, it's not the main reason, but a part of the whole thing. Anyway. When I read then stuff like this, I feel good and know that I'll be there as soon as possible again. Maybe next year (keep on posting pics, Captain!)

Did a Brit MP get money from Iraq?
Yes, we here in germany interprete the right of free speech of the press sometimes a bit harsher than it's done in the UK. Press can state whatever they want as long as they can back up and proove it when asked. In the UK, so it seems here, press can state whatever they want and noone cares if it isn't true. So, I take everything I read from the UK press with an extra grain of salt (in addition to the salt for press in general). The Daily Telegraph reports today from the Labour MP Galloway that he is said to have gotten about 375.000 British Pounds (a bit more than 500.000 EUR - I prefer the civilized currency ;-)). So what is it? A Brit (note: it was a Brit and not a french, a german or a russian) who was on the paylist of Iraq. That follows the question for what he was paid? Or is it just a newspaper trying to damage some lefties? As it's said here, he will sue the newspaper for it. And he gave a statement, which is to read in full here. For not just having one side of it all, we can also see, what the Independent is writing about this. We also have an opinion about this from the Express, the Mirror, The Sun. I won't go digging through german ones, for not to stress your Babelfishes too much. I hope, truth will win. If Galloway is right and all this is a campaign either by the press or by someone who uses the press, it must be asked who wants to damage a man so much, he doesn't hesitate to use such a campaign.

The Looting
You know how angry I was about the Looting in Iraq. Here I found a real pragmatical idea how to at least deal with what is now. I love it - when can we start?

We survived
And by the way - we survived. No grandparent got murdered. The birthday cake is in the fridge for wednesday for the Nanny group and we have food for ages left. But well, Wondergilr is two years old now. She got many books, some playstuff, some clothes and as much kisses as she could handle. Ah yes - and mucho cake and fruit. And all grandparents left our home still alive and not being snipped at. Sometimes I think Mr. Lilli must be a Saint.

Behind every man there is
a great blogging wife? Yeah, something like that. Especially here you'll find one who really makes a good point. There is something at the saying: Friends like you because you are who you are, some women like men because they like what they can make of them. Sure I know not to generalize, but I know so many men who should be happy they've found a woman to take care for them.

There are people...
you wouldn't believe it. As an active anglophile of course a Blog with the name LondonBlog cought my eye. There I saw a link to this story. Really funny, what some people are up to.

Happy Easter
If you're not able to understand german, just screw the text and have a grin about the picture. If you understand german - read the text and learn something new. Right here!

So much for conspiracy theories
You remember the fuss about the point that a few days before Private Jessica Lynch was rescued someone bought the homepage jessicalynch.net? The theory went that, because this page was booked a few days before they rescued Private Lynch, it all was made up. But well, german media now report, that there is a candidate for Miss New York whose name is Jessica Lynch. It's said this page belongs her and was booked for if she'll win the contest. So much for that conspiracy. So what tells us this?

Sushi anyone?
Like cinnamon wrote at her place "I love my sushi!". I really do. Luckily we have several Sushi places in cologne where on can go. I think it's unreasonable expensive (you pay it by plate. You collect the plates you took and pay them at the end. So I never go there hungry!), but sometimes, even at our small budget, it's just worth it. And the we have this friend... this friend who once lost a bet and had to invite us to dinner. Instead of doing it, he came to our home and made a wonderful Sushi for us. In our kitchen. As much we could eat. With tea. that was really great!

So what II
I wrote here yesterday that they should not make such a fuss about some german having contact with Iraq because it was last year. The comments I got per mail and on the site showed me that I was not really clear here. tcobb, for example wrote:
If the US dropped a nuclear weapon on a German city one year and one day ago, would your attitude be "what's the fuss about it, it happened a year ago?"
What I meant with it is, that it happened last year, and the US were not yet at war with the Iraq then. The Iraq was under UNO-watch, which was okay and germany did believe in a peaceful way to solve this conflict. Under this cirsumstances I can't see this as anything more than hot air.

Is this clear?
I guess the problem is the same here as in the UK or in the US. And you have to be really, really very clear about it, I think. This should work. Thx to Jenny for finding it.

The bell curve
This here is a really interesting phenomenon. Makes one think about the times we live in.

So what?
I found this link in some other blogs and I'm sure, the numbers of stupid righties increase who now want germany bombed or to pay back what the US did for them after WWII as if they hadn't paid it double and triple back!) and all that. But to be honest - what's the fuss about it? All this happened last year!

Wondergirl
The little sunshine of my life, wondergirl, will have her second birthday tomorrow. So I will have both grandmas, one grandpa and a lorry full of birthday gifts at home by tomorrow. Please forgive me, if my blogging gets a bit harsh tomorrow, my nerves will be stretched when they'll be gone. I still can't understand we are graced with this wonderful, beautiful and sooo sweet person to live with us and to grow up here. I've never met a person with so much charme and power in her smile than wondergirl. Ya know, I like to imagine the heaven like I thought as a child it would be. All the to be born babies sit there and wait until a mother gets pregnant. And I love the thought that wondergirl, one of the most beautiful little angles and babies to be there sat there, looked down on us and decieded that she wants to live and grow up with us. Isn't that a nice idea?

Revenge for 66?
To be honest, I'm not a big football (soccer) fan at all. I sometimes watch a game on television, but if there's anything more interesting on, I'll switch without hesitating. So there seem to be some stamps being made in germany, designed by a german. Each World Cup winner-country gets its own stamp. Except the UK. They say it's because of the queen's head who'd not fit into the design. Could be.

Too much beer
Does that mean, germans can handle beer better than Brits? Well, if you ever drunk british beer and if you ever paid for it, you might understand that. The beer I saw and tried was just way too expensive to get drunk from it.

Ken gets a brother
Go over at Zogbyblog and have a look at Kens Iraqi brother. Barbie will have fun with him, I'm sure.

Priceless
This link is really funny. Reminds me on the jokes we made about Iraqi pilots during the Iran/ Iraq-war, when it was reported they fly their planes by sight.

Bush didn't fake it
We'll read stuff like that just in some years. And people like zogby will sit down and whine.

Kirk vs Picard
Here is what generations f fans, and trekkies and other folks have waited for years. The ultimate fight Kirk vs picard. All we have to wait for is wen Janeway with her pumpgun will appear.

Penis enlargement?
About two or three times a week I find some spam in my mail where folks want to sell me some stuff for penis enlargement. And the guarantee me to be successfull- should I sue them? But by now I found another site who shows the problem from a different angle. As I knew there are people suffering from their underweight, I can imagine there are people suffering from a big dick. Actually I once had a boyfriend with one. Yes - I'd have paid money for what they try to sell at this site. In this context all I can say is take a look at his site and ponder about the never-been sended spam.

Who was responsible for the looting?
Many bloggers are still discussing about the looting in Baghdad and the whole Iraq. Yes, I do believe, there will come up some stuff here in Europe. Simply because there are europeans who have the money to afford such stuff. I also believe, some of it will come up in the USA like the golden gun they found today at London heathrow in a bag which beloenged to an US soldier. He wanted to take it home, our news said. But who did it? Did the US soldiers do it? I seriously doubt it. In german news this morning there was said that rumours run through Baghdad that american soldiers encouraged the people to go to the museum. They are said to have told to the people stuff like: Take it, it's yours. Well, I think the probability is the same that this story is a simple lie. Others, like michele say, it was the Iraqi regime itself, which is of course pretty silly, too. I guess she tried to put it as easy as possible but again, jumped too short. The iraqi regime had better to do than to loot a museum. They had enough to do to save their own asses and lifes and of course their money. People who one can count to the regime, wouldn't have wasted a thought on this stuff. No, I do believe it was this anger of the people and the want to do anything at all. So that's what I think who did it. But who was responsible? Of course the main responsibility is at the people who did it. People are responsible for their actions. But is one, who can prevent an event not even the same responsible than the one who at least did it? Especially if the one who could have prevented, was able to really see that danger? I do believe the soldiers could have done something, anything to save the museum and the artifacts. They didn't. Out of malice? I'd doubt. More out of the combination of arrogance paired with being clueless. It's a shame. Monothematic I am, I always repeat myself, they did guard the oil ministry. So any speech for them being neither responsible nor having been able to prevent it, must be wrong and stupid. It's a shame.

Demonstrating against Saddam
Yes, when one reads this german link (try babelfish for translations), there are two thoughts coming up in my mind.
Thought A): Yeah - great, they are able to demonstrate. What a good thing.
Thought B): Yeah, the Schiite don't like Americans, their Imans pray bitterness and sometimes even hatred about the US. Even when they are happy, Saddam is gone now, they don't want the US soldiers to stay, either. I don't know what they expect. That Bush leaves them alone now, once he has them by the guts?

Why the left was right
I love to be right! And it feels even better when it was not one of my dark predictions being right but some inner belief, like this time. Rubbernun links to a great article where it should be clear for everyone why the left was right. And now - shut up, far right! (as if they will do because I say... but a girl can dream). Here is the link.

One I forgot,
yes, I forgot, to tell about the Group Captain. It's his fault I'm here (but don't be too angry about him for that), because he told me abut blogging the first time (it's not so popular in german, actually I don't know any other german blogger in person and all people I know have never heard about it before...). Well, he has changed his site and kinda moved Across the Atlantic. He put his blog together with shell, which promises to be pretty funny for the future. There he goes on my sidebar.

A busy week
I really had a busy week til now. It's really much to do at work, we'll handling four big and important projects at once, next to the "normal" daywork. I have a hard time to get out there before 7 pm. But then I have to because at 7.30 I have to be into politics. Self chooses stress is still stress. But, but, but, easter is near and I'll be off work for two days. I'll spend them with wondergirl and I'll have way more time for blogging and reading other sites. So, all I want today is go to bed and get some sleep, because tomorrow will be as busy as the last days. I'll be back tomorrow, so, in between go here, here or here, until I'll be back.

I can't hear it anymore.
I jus wrote a comment over at micheles place. It's way too late to write about it in the length it would deserve (not my comment, I mean the general topic). I'm fed up with this warblogging about how funny and easy this little bit of looting was. I have talked to several Europeans about this. Many see it that one has to be as arrogant and clueless about history than the average american is to buy this story. Yes, I have no idea what US folks know about history besides the american history. But when I read these pro-war folks whining about the poor children who had to be liberated and that a bit of looting is clearly worth free children, it really sucks! This shows so much ignorance and stupidity about worldwide connections, it's really far beyond anything I could explain with intelligence. It's arrogance paired with no clue. It pisses me off. Do they really have any idea what it is we are talking about? We're not talking about some local museum with some history stuff about some iraqian tribes. We are not talking about some stuff one can replace like Powell is reported to have said. We are talking about the history of mankind. This loss hits every living human being on the world, maybe except the aboriginies, but that's it. Does any of this folk get this? And who says the children shouldn't have be freed? But if just a quarter of the effort to guard this effing oil ministry was used to protect this museum, nothing would have happened. But no - why should one waste a thought about this ridiculous old stuff? I really can't believe people to be so naive and self centred.

Have you read what Tobias
wrote today? Have a look at it, it's interesting! I'm way too tired to comment, but I my do it later tomorrow or the week.

Send a Voodoo!
Are you vindictive? I am. I have a really good working memory for people who once did me no good. Usually I deciede to forgive at some point, mostly because real revenge is too much work for me, lazy I am, but sometimes someone really makes it in the middle of my heart and on top of my list. This here might be a way to work with the agressions. Thanks to Jenny for the link.

So who'll be next?
Have you also wondered why the US don't go and mess with Korea? They have WMD. Why not with China? They have WMD: But well... now there is Syria. And since not a rats ass has cared for Syria until some weeks before, now Bush and his friends start the same discrediting game again, because it worked with Iraq. This is so disgusting, I can't describe. Anyway, read here something more about what I mean.

The Death Penalty
Yes, one thing, why the US and especially their actual president are so suspect to many europeans is the Death Penalty. I was born in 1968. I grew up in a country that condems Death Penalty. I grew up in a time where Death Penalty is seen as very cruel and where no human has the right to kill another one. Neither has any state. The US see it different. At least some States. They claim the right to kill people when a jury condems them to death. The gouvernor is the only one who could stop this process and folks like George W. show up with the number of people being killed during their governorship. Can you imagine how this looks to someone like me? It seems barbaric, it seems strange when a president claims to be a christ and a minute later claims to be okay with the death penalty. I'm no speacialist in the bible, but I know for sure that since the new testatment there was not a single word about killing your enemies and all that. That's all in the old testament. But I don't want a religious discussion. It' s more strange when I see who else allows death penalty. Countries like China, Iran, and Lybia, for example. Is that a companionship a civilized country wants to be in? Well, the amnesty sites report everything one wants to know about the numbers and statistics. I found it via blamblog.

Support whomever
Yes - I love the ribbon stuff and so, but enough is enough. When I browse through all the Blogs I see some folks really seem having a sexual-like relationship to links and icons showing whom and what they support most right now. Sure, at the moment the yellow ribbons are a hit, also "Our Troops" (with best Harald Schmidt voice) who need to be supported and all that. Yes, I think I'll show you from time to time some special sites who really celebrate it orgiastic-like. Today I stumbled into Celissa. While the content is really small, she seems to be really big in supporting and chanting and french-dissing. At least she is supporting Tony Blair and the UK - well some may state that this isn't possible at the sime time, but who am I to say such a thing?

Have you taken
your daily look over at idleworm? No? You should. Todays writing about the looting is really enlightening. Especially for those who can't hear any more whining about the poor children that now are free. Yeah - that is nice. But well... that can't be the ultimate reason for everything.

You loved Tetris?
I admit, I was addicted! And I kinda still am. I really love this kind of games, and here I found another one. My night will be short, I'm sure!

Minister of Disinformation
It had some fun deep inside, to watch the speeches of the Iraqi Information Minister. When he declared everything clearly visible and kinda public knowledge to being just propaganda and fantasy. I think he will get his footnote of history, at least in comedy-history. He also has fans. And these fans have opened a site for him here. Unfortunately, so it's said, this site has so many hits, it's down at the moment. But you can try, maybe you'll be lucky. Or you go and read here something about it.

Which OS are you?
I'm too ashamed to talk about my result. Get yours here.

Convert the ignorant president?
Hmm, is that true?
first they converted an ignorant, inexperienced president to their pro Israel, hawkish worldview.
Then 9/11 allowed them to claim Iraq threatened the U.S. The rest is on CNN tonight

No, I don't think that's true. He was converted before he became president.

Does the Dog talk?
Well, the question is, does the Dog think before talking? Seems so.

Another one on Iraq
While military action in Iraq may be successful in the short run, it has the potential to reduce the security of the United States, erode our basic freedoms and civil rights, and ultimately hasten the decline of US influence for good in the world.
Yeah, that's interesting. The rest is, too.

Rumsfeld says
a bit of Looting is okay. Whew, great idea. Idleworm has some ideas for it. To be serious - here the media reported, people also steal everything from hospitals and from the red cross and all. It was also reported that the oil-ministerium was taken care for. Yes, that fits.

Museum of unworkable Devices
Have I linked to this before? I'm not sure. Anyway, I don't mind. It's so fun and interesting to see. Go and see!

Who was Frank Olson?
Well, for what I read, it seems he worked for the CIA and died by falling out of a window. His son says, he was murdered, the CIA says, it was no murder. Conspiracy fans say he had to die because he knew too much about the tests the CIA did. His son, for example has a page on its own, of course the CIA has one, too, and CNN has a collection on its side, also. And if you can handle german links, you'll have fun here. Thanks to Schockwellenreiter who linked to it.

Proud American
Out of the obscurity cabinet - here is "the" shop for people who want to wear their american pride for the whole world to see. You can get nearly everything with stars and stripes, from Tampax, Tampons of Glory over the Tyres of Pride to Confeddy Freddy . Great site and real funny idea!! Go and have fun there. Thx to IT&W for the link.

Is any extreme able to offer the truth?
I have a problem with the most -ists. Extremists are such a group I dstrust deeply. Extremists in whatever direction can't tick the same way I do and so they are not my kind of person. In this whole Iraq War duscussion it was obvious. The extreme right could never be my taste, but when I see the extreme lefties, I get a shudder, too. Vomit-Inns? Chaining on a train? Demolishing stuff while demonstrating? No, that can't be what I stand for, too. When I read stuff like the letter, Tom writes about, it's about the same. This letter stuff is such a silly and polemic idea, because it doesn't handle any situation it's just a childish "nah nah nah nah" with many words and in an international mimicri. I read many rightie - sites and sometimes I comment there, when I want to, but since their way of thinking is so different to mine, I really can't show much than mercy for them because of course I am sure, that I believe in Da Real Truth. If not, I would not believe in it, would I?

Physics bores?
Well, in school, I was pretty bored by physics. But in life I learned it depends a lot on the teacher and how they can make it interesting for kids. I was more interested in the guy next to me or in my recent spot on the chin than in what the teacher told us, but since it is so modern at the moment to do physics on TV, in books or even at a museum trip, this sounded interesting to me. Actually, I've never thought much about how they do their teatime above. But here we can see Tea Time at the ISS. Found the link at Jerrys place. And yeah - I like his template ;-)

Hongkong takes your breath away? That's what I fear!
But it's also something to see in an international campaign for tourism in Hongkong. You can get the link to the story here. It could be funny if there weren't so many dead already. Found the link at Daves place.

Plagiarism?
Is it plagiarism, what Sean-Paul Kelley did, or was it understandable? Do Bloggers have to have ethical standards? Do they have to have the same, journalists claim to have? Was in the last weeks the discussion in the newspapers about online-diaries and stuff, it comes now to some ethical cores. We'll see where the discussion will carry us. Thanks to Schockwellenreiter for his link!

Sign this petition!
I don't like J-Lo. I don't think she's good looking, neither do I like her songs. Nothing against her, but I don't like her. And when I read this at Rubbernuns place, I became really worried. Go - sign it!

Boycotting part IV
Mr. Lilli, who is a passionate reader of "Spiegel Online" and other german sources pointed me to here and here about germans boycotting american products.
Since we have this discussion now on three blogs, over at Tobias, Zogby and here, I still stand by what I say. I don't think boycotts are a working thing. I've stated enough why it doesn't work for the US and the reasons for germans are also easy to see:
Let me say one word - Computer. Does any of us have a "German/ Old Europe Only Computer"? I don't. And as long as you don't run Linux, also your software is not really german or European. Do you want to stop listening to american music? I don't. I like Eminem and the Dixie Chicks and also some other stuff from over there. And yes, I admit, I love my Heinz Ketchup. The german Kraft Ketchup (isn't it Nestle or so?) just doesn't hit the taste. But yes, I do prefer Afri Cola, but I did it long before the boycott thoughts came up this time. I just like the taste better. I drive a Ford. Which is a good example for the impossibility of boycotting on target. The Ford I drive is made in germany, from german workers, but it is American. Whom would I hit moreß Of course the german workers and not the big bosses in the US.

Another quote of the day
"CNN shows where the bombs start. Al Jazeerah shows where they hit". Again something I found in german and translated, but I like it. I mean, it's this pendulum... extremes can't be healthy on the long run and I see CNN (meaning "the" american meadia) and Al Jazeerah as two extremes in none-objective reporting. Thanks to Rollberg for the quote.

Warbloggers fight in Baghdad?
Means in Lilli-English something like: It is true, the USA and the UK have closed their ring around Baghdad. But it is not true that the USA tries to build special forces from the bigmouthed and most bloodthirsty warbloggers, to win in the streets of Baghdad. Thanks to Schockwellenreiter for that quote. You made my day!

An Answer about Boycotts and putting it simple
Part III, I think. The last post I did last friday, where I linked to Tobias page where he stated his opinion about boycotting (which is pretty similar to mine). Kamil, over from ZogbyBlog today sent me an email where he answered Tobias Post. Here it is:

Yes, I'm quite sure the Germans and French would love to delude themselves into thinking that the American boycotting of their products is a function of our "simplicity," but the facts will prove otherwise.
With Old Europe's moribound economies producing record unemployment and deficits, the combination of three important boycotts will further sink these economies into the toilet. First, individual American boycotts of your goods WILL cause harm to your economy as exports are lowered.
Second, a ban on German and French companies from contracts for post-war Iraqi reconstruction will deprive your sickly economies from billions of dollars and further degrade any possibility of French and German economic recovery. Lastly, look for a post-war Iraqi government to abrogate any loans made by France, Germany, and Russia to the Saddamite regime, similar to what the Communists did in post-Tsarist Russia.
This three strike boycott will seriously harm Old Europe's economies beyond their ability to quickly recover. My advice, get your dental work done now because after we're through with this war, Schroeder and Chirac will be a memory and once your anti-American, Bush-hating, hangover subsides, the reality of the depth of the consequences of your treachery will be measured in mounting unemployment, huge government deficits, and ballooning public anger.

Kamil B. Zogby, Jr.
Philadelphia, PA.

Kamil, I don't share your opinion here. I agree to that part that of course it would his european economy if the trade with the USA would go to zero. But I'm pretty sure this won't happen so soon. First because there are enough Americans who need to drive a Mercedes Benz or a Porsche and some other stuff you only get in this quality in germany or other european countries (ever eaten british "Bratwurst"? Awful!).
Second because this would mean that Bush and his fellow falcons would really close all doors to the "Old Europe", what I can't think. The americans do export much stuff to Europe, too, and they also couldn't afford to stop exporting all that Heinz Ketchup and Microsoft X-boxes and all that.
Schroeder and Chirac have their place in history already and George W. Bush has it, too. IMO only time will tell who will have the better reputation some years ago. I do believe it will be Schroeder, Chirac and all the others while the Bushs and all the guys with them will be a bad memory in a democratic USA: I do believe in the self-healing qualities of the USA and they will see pretty soon, how much damage the politics of the Bush clan does to the american ideals. (Have you taken the time to go through what they are making for laws right now? They're going to cut your personal rights to a stance like at the Mc Carthy area.) So - I don't worry for the international climate too much.

I don't know what it is,
but my connection sucks today. It takes ages until a site is loaded and I can't read comments or archives and I don't get my sitemeter to show me the hits today. All I want is my bed, the flu is coming - wondergirl is already coughing in her bed - and I go to sleep now. Tomorrow more.

Need a car? Go get George's Balls!
This is so funny, I have to link to it. Don't get me wrong, I'd never ask anyone to commit any crime, especially not on George W oder Tony, but since it's art and since it's really funny, have a look here! Thanks to Industrial Technology and Witchcraft for the link!

IISS
IISS is not a cry when ýou find out that Barbies melt in the microwave, it's short for International Institute for Strategic Studies. Interesting site!

Vampires?
Uh. Ah. I knew, they were amongst us. I've seen interview with a vampire und here in cologne there are many girl running around dressed as vampires, all in black and so. But do they eat chickens? Does chickenblood count for vampires? And how do they do it in Chile? I don't know, but I love such stories!

Anti American Room Cleaning?
No idea, what's meant with that? Well, then take a look at Tobias' Place and read what he tells us about the daughter of the wife from german chancollour schroeder. In one thing he's not completely right, in the interview it's said, this gril has just and only the american citizenship, which can't be, because when her mother (or father) is german, she automatically gets the german one, too. If she uses it or not doesn't matter, germany has the Blood-rules for citizenship so she's german/american. But well... since too many people are not able to get the principles of globalization (GWB seems to be one of them), I don't want to explain too much.

I was wondering
why I get so many hits from google and yahoo!. Then I tried some searches and found out that I'm No. one at yahoo! and No. two at google when looking for Lilli Marleen in english. Funny. I'd have thought there were many more and more prominent pages. Take a look at my sidebar, then you'll find the link to a page where the song is translated in several languages.

Have it simple?
Tobias over at his place, has read one of my last rantings about one of Kamil Zogbys comments and has put his thoughts in it, too. As usual he's done it in way better english than I do, but I liked to read it anyway ;-).

Dyslexics site
Okay, I don't like what I read, but that wouldn't be a problem I'm used to that by now. But he's tried to be really funny and made his page for dyslexics only, how Kamil stated it over at his place. It's a cheap hit, so I wonder if he get many hits. His writing contains many more-syllable words, so he can't write for the people who find his site...

Winnetou?
I have not the slightest cue if US folks know Karl May. Here in germany he is a still well known author and there are still generations of (mostly) boys who read and live through his complete Winnetou-Stories. The more it will be good news for these guys and girls that his complete work now is online readablel like Schnorchelfabrik showed. The link is here. Have fun at the Silver Sea!

Childrens Stories
I try to teach english to wondergirl as early as possible. In our german school-system there is, until the last two years or so, never been the thinking of a child learning a second language before age of 8 or 10. Many people say this is bullshit and I believe these people, so I try to do it better.
She has english books, we go to the Early Learning Centres, whenver we're in the UK and come out packed with tons of wonderful stuff in english and not gettable in germany - at least not in english.

Now I found over at Cinnamons Place this great link to the ROSETTA PROJECT, where one can download old childrens stories (like the ugly duckling and so) with wonderful old pictures for free. Yes - FOR FREE!! I've been there and loaded like there were no tomorrow, which is silly, since this page possibly will be there, tomorrow, too. I'll try to translate the one or the other story into german, either just for my own use, or, if wanted also for the use of this site. It's so nice to see someone having spend so much time for this stuff. Wonderful! I'm sure, Wondergirl will love it!

Great Pics from George W. Bush
I found this article in the german newspaper Der Spiegel, so you don't have to read the text but you can it via Babelfish, but scroll down to the photos. They are fun to see!

The first heroine of this war
Group Commander Steve has it, like many others on his page - a link to a story reporting the rescue of Jessica Lynch.
First: I am happy that she is safe and alive. As I keep saying, if the United States had a different president, she any many others would have been never in danger to risk their lifes for the Iraqis who, as our media report in the biggest parts - really don't want to be liberated from the US right now. They hate Saddam and want to see him dead or at least far away, but this US attitude is a bit too much for most of muslims. As for some other parts of what I call civilized world. ;-)
Back to Jessica Lynch.
She was captured, she was brought in a hospital. She was maybe tortured, at least she saw and heard torturing around her. She was rescued by american soldiers. Great!
So, this was the whole story in one line. The american media will make a handfull of talkshows, a lot of news-flashes and I bet there is someone already writing the screenplay for Hollywood about her. It comes so hany right now! The girl seems to be made for a heroine. She's the lowes military grade, so everyone, even the most stupid dumbass who survives daily life just by accident, will be able to identify with her.
She is young. She looks really cute. These two things are never bad for a person on page 1.
Her family is poor, her brother is also in service. Also looks good and helps this "American Dream" thing a lot. Everybody can be a hero, even if he's poor and has nothing but tw children at the army.
She is said to have fought like crazy. Well, I always assumed that's expected from a soldier, but I can be wrong there, since I don't know what the exact skills are a soldier has to fulfill.
Well, he rescue came just right in time. The support in the US was decreasing, the stock marked, also and the numbers of people who started to think about peace and who started to talk about it, became bigger and bigger. Now then there is this young woman, and the biggest dream and mythos of the american army is shown to be reality. Here it's said you're the safest as an american soldier because your colleagues try everything to rescue you. Here it works. It also works for the 11 dead soldiers. Somehow.
The comments in our media mostly are a bit hesitating. On the one hand we also are happy that this lady survived, on the other hand it's still possible she's a fake. And we don't understand this whole fuss about it, because that is what we always expected. They go in and rescue her. Period. The more I think about this whole war thing, I come to the conclusion, the we are really heavily different from each other. In perception, in perceiving an atmosphere, in believing in authorities and many stuff more. I wonder what the criteria are.

Move your butt!
As if I weren't telling that to myself again and again. Via rubbernun I found a link, where I can practize to Move My Butt and don't have to get up at all. Have fun!

Boycott again
I got a comment from Kamil to the entry below. Kamil states:

Hey, I'm stll calling them french fries and I always hated French's mustard. But, I am boycotting French products.
Boycotting is the only way that I can make a difference.
And, if millions of other Americans are doing the same, which they are, then it will hurt the Frog's economy.
Also hurt will be all the French and German firms who WON'T be getting any contracts in post-Saddam Iraq.

That might ring true at first, but lets try to think about it a bit aside from all media-planned bashing, okay?
What products are real French products? How does one get to know enough about the company structure not to hit someone one doesn't want to? What if this french sounding company, maybe also sitting in France is in truth a cooperation with an english company? Or a spanish one? Or maybe it belongs to a group which owner is american? Hmm....
It might indeed hurt the french economy. But do you really think some consumer boycott would change anything? I don't believe. I don't think that international trading structures are so easy to break. For the french product you boycott, you also boycott the american company who organizes the import. You hit the american truck driver who brings it from north to south or back. You hit the american product, the French people who might lose their job about this, would buy if they had money. Naahh... world's way too globalized and the import and export countries are way too dependant on each other for consumer boycott to really work.

And yous last sentence really made me laugh out loud. The US does need all this French and German money and works and stuff bitterly to rebuild what they destroy there right now. In germany there are many voices stating that germany should not take part in the re-building work, because the US should pay it all alone, when they damage it. The only thing one can get our of Iraq right now is oil, and since this war is not for oil, there is nothing to gain.

It amuses me and many other europeans that it is described in the US news as if the UN and european companies would stay in row for puleeeze be able to spend mony in rebuilding in Iraq. In our media it's more described what amount of money and amount of credits are necessary for Iraq to be rebuild. And in the opposite to the US, germany uses to pay its membership and other fees and amounts of the UN and some contracts. The US is due to pay millions of Euros to the UN, so they dare to speak about
gaining profit from contracts? Come on... you can't be so naive, or?

Again, I do think the real truth (if there is such a thing) is, as usual in between the both P'sOV .

This is soo boring!
You know why sites like this just plain bore me? Because it's neither new nor funny nor everything else positive than just waste of webspace. I am no France-Fan myself, I don't like the language, I don't like most of the food and I can't stand the beer, but I'd never have the idea to boycott stuff like Coca Cola or Microsoft or Pepsi and Ford, just because the US government is lead by this ... president (it's really difficult to use this word for that guy). If some people (and all the supporters of such sites seem to belong to them) haven't noticed it: We live in the age of globalism. This might not all the time be a good thing, but right now it means that you have a hard time finding out what bigger and boycott-worth brand belongs to whom. Ford for example, is an american child. It has a big department here in cologne, let's assume I'd be the decieder about car-buying in a noticable number and let's further assume I'd think because of the invasion of Iraq, I'd boycott Ford. Whom would i hit? Well - first the cologne workers whose jobs were in danger. Than the german firms who make and deliver all the stuff around this car building (from tyres to glas and colour). And at least the city of cologne because Ford would pay lower taxes if they would have sold less cars. So what should it teach any thinking human? This idea doesn't work. And it doesn't work the same way with French product, not all shareholders of french stocks are non-american. So with every bottle of Chanel No. 5 you make them losing money(I assume, Chanel belongs to a bigger global concern which is traded at the stock exchange). Is that what you dumbass from such sites want to get? Whew! Impressing! Go and chew your freedom fries and use freedom mustard and whatever. It doesn't show anything than your lack of sence for reality.

Enduring Freedom
or what's the hip name right at the moment? Here we use to call it just "War on Iraq", becasue we're not yet used that even war gets a publishable name from advertisement folks. Via Daves Place I found this link, where the suggestions for more operations are made (nb: why is this called an operation? Is tehre a doc? Is there a medical necissity?). If you are one of the believers in the axis of Evil you might find what you need here for the use in the next few years.

US Press
I've participated in some discussion about the US press and its urge to stand hands tight in line behind the president. Many people shout this isn't so, but, allow me the arrogance, I know it is of course! Also the german media started months ago reporting how strange the climate is changing like it was at the Mc Carthy Area. Here I found some good posting about all this stuff.

All Iraq facts at one look!
My colleague sent me this link today at work and it was really hard not to post it immediately. The numbers are frightening, but much more I got frightened when I read the last lines at the "About" site of it. One day the history will ask the US "Was it worth it?" and all the dead young men and women will ask it like a choir. I wonder what the world, the US and this George W. in special will answer then.

More pics!
You think battleships and -planes are more erotic than your wife and the four children? You prefer to sit at you puter than to take care for the ones who love you and live with you? Than you might like the pictures one can find here.

Yeah! That's it!
The last weeks I saw in all these blogs the stuff about liberating and feeing all the iraqi people. The americans have started this war for helping and feeding them... Oh well, so this yahoo-writer seems to misunderstand something, or?

Satellite Pictures from Iraq
Throug a link at the Netzeitung I found this site providing nearly actual satellite pictures from Iraq, so, if you have no idea where on a map to find it and how the people are living there, you can at least have a look at the country from a satellites perspective.

Gary Hart has a blog
It's here. I wonder if he reads and/ or writes it himself or if it's written just by his employees.

Surrender!
No, I haven't been to France the last years, so it must have been done by someone else. But it's funny anyway.

Adopt Iraq!
You have children? You'll get some more according to what it's written here. A nice satirical piece of text. I found it via Arons site!

What History teaches us
I found this link via Schockwellenreiter and it's really a great article. Go - read it!

William Kristol, Norman Podhoretz, Elliot Abrams, and Robert Kagan
- what do they have in common? This story reveals it!

Iraqi TV
You have read what I wrote about this streams from Al jazeera? It was reported here that some stuff, especially when it has to do with american POW, won't be showed on the american TV's. Well, even when I can understand the reason that they don't want the families have to get to know it from TV, I don't see it as the only reason. I'd guess they just don't want the ugly face of war to be seen from too many people. But however. As I use to say - the US TV isn't the holder of the only truth - of course not! - and I could imagine they are doing their manipulative job pretty well. The Iraqi TV, I'm sure, can do better with that! Here is a link where it's described how americans can also get the Iraqi TV stations. You won't understand a word, but you might want to watch the streams and pictures.

Nothing to do at work?
Usually, when I'm at work, I am pretty busy and have much stuff to do. Sure, I stare out of the window while I go on standby for relaxing, but I don't have any time for stuff like this, when I am at work. When I grow up I want to be a web-developer.

If you were a country...
which Country were you? Found it at Chads place.

Have you read The Stand
from Stephen King? I did it several times, because I really loved that book. I feel somewhat reminded on it, when I hear about SARS nowadays. Two of the five german ones are in a hospital in my hometown. Both were just come from Asia. Can't we have a quarantene for everyone coming from there? That would be hard, but we were safer, wouldn't we?

As I always said...
I am not the only one in germany blogging. There are some more. For example Amiland. Haven't read too much from it, but it seems to be an Amercian living in germany. Well, from the bits I saw, he doesn't seem to belong to what calls itself the left in germany, but one might like this sita anyway ;-)

Why is the US invading the Iraq?
Wesley Wheaton linked in his blog to a great conversation. It sounds like mostly what I've heard and read the last days and weeks, and it won't become better, just because it's repeated all the time. There are a few points missing in this, like the children and the women. The US also does it for them. To liberate them. Okay, they'll have to kill maybe thousands of them before, but then, the surviving will be liberated. Whew!

Whacky Iraqi Attaci
You know anything about the Happy Bomb? No? Neither did I until I found at Dean Esmay a link where he directed me to IMAO and I read this. Really great!

Sounds like a hard relationship
As I've read at Zogby Blog, this article has made some of the pro-war blogs being angry and hitting at him. Well... I would not state my opinion so hard, but there is of course some truth in it.

Ego part II
Are you depressive? No chance for any graduation or universary title (scroll down for the letter)? Hmm, maybe this will bring you down then completely . Found at Dave Barry. Abd don't call me cruel for that, I read it myself.

Pretzels for Bush
This is a fun site to read! Have a look at it and get some, if you can.

Al Jazeeras coverage today
Here in germany I can't get AL jazeera live. I also have to go by what our media show us. So we know, we'll see what they'll want us to see and nothing more but nothing less, too. Dean has here some reports about what Al jazeera reports. I mean, it doesn't surprize anyone that they don't show the same things than the embedded journalists? (by the way - how can a journalist claim neutrality when he is embedded with the troops in such a situation? One doesn't have to know much about psychology to see how such stuff will work out in general.)

Heinlein is still alive
Yes, I like to read his books. I think I owe everything ever being published in german (and many english ones, too). That doesn't mean I agree with what Heinlein thinks and how he thinks the military is. I just like his concept of the world itself. And what I find here really sounds like it was written by Heinlein himself. Why should I respect any veteran, just because he managed to survive? Nah - no chance. Anyone who deserves my respect will earn it, anyone who is somehow disabled will get any help from me possible and wanted, but just because one once wore an uniform? No. Do I know for what reasons he did wear it? Do I know if he just didn't start a massacre in vietnam and murdered dozens of people? Do I know if he was a nasty doormat to the leaders and all his comrades hated him? If he reall was such a great soldier, he might be somehow still great and will get my respect very fast. This really is something I put under "They're funny, therse Americans"

Can you tell?
Can you tell the difference between a selection of murderous, human rights-abusing dictators and some Hollwood porn legends, simply by examining their moustaches? If you'll follow this link you can get some practise.

We don't do Body Counts
Why not? I believe that when the dead bodie count will increase too much, support for this war will be gone completely. As I don't stop to say: Im am so sorry for every soldier who has to dig into sand and heat, just because this american president says so. Anyway, here's the link.

Blogging goes germany
Of course I am not the only german blogger. But every day when I talk to people and tell them about weblogs and stuff I get completely surprized faces because so many never have heard of it. Well, today one of the best german newspapers, Der Spiegel, (german link!) had an article about Warlogs and Weblogs in general. The funny thing is that they perceive it that way that pro-war blogging is a clear minority. I think I just hang around at the wrong corners of bloggerworld, but I perceive it completely different. I feel surrounded by pro-war blogs and folks. Even if you don't understand german, you can catch lots of links over there.

World's gone crazy?
"Yeah, you know, the world is gone crazy when the best rapper is white, the best golfer is black, when Swiss wins the Amercia Cup, when France calls the USA arrogant and Germany doesn't want to participate in a war."
Thanks to Schockwellenreiter to this phrase (he had it in german).

It's ribbon time!
Okay, I ran around with a red ribbon, when they became understood here. I like the "free-speech" ribbon for a long time, and I would surely not tag my Blog with a yellow ribbon, so I decieded for the green one. Green is the hope we say in germany and so I have my hope. You know other ribbons worth displaying here? Let me know please!

A letter to Tony
Did we yesterday take a look to what Michael Moore writes to Bush, we now can see what Terry Jones writes to Tony Blair. He also sounds a bit of critique. Even when I can support what he writes, I don't see any sense in doing it yet, because the show is also running. It's sad to have to call the death of many people a show, but all partners in this sad war present it like it was one. Thanks to Rubbernun for this link.

Michael Moore writes to Bush
Have you seen the letter from Michael Moore to Mr. Bush? Several Blogs have their go with it, for example Kamil Zogby at his blog, displaying, what Rachel Lucas wrote. As we know better (don't we know just anything better right from here?? ;-)), some things of his letter sound really true, while some others are just a bit, well, too much for my taste. Have fun with it.

Why are the Al-jazeera reports not allowed?
Okay, the report from Al-jazeera where the captured US soldiers are shown (lets presume they are real and no fake) is clearly a violation of the geneve conventions (link found through the . So far so bad. Here in germany they showed this part all day long and it made me really feel so sad for the prisoners of war and for their families. I mean, just in case you didn't see it - they really looked totaly frightened and I felt so with them. This whole thing is not their fault at all, and they have to suffer for a war I still think is wrong. But anyway - why is now Rumsfeld on TV and asking the TV stations not to ait the report? CBS seems to have done it and was slashed by Rumsfeld at the press conference, and he said he hoped, the other stations would not put this on air. Why not? Does he want the families not to suffer when they see their beloved ones in that situation, or is it that he fears to lose popularity points for himself and his president and the whole war? Does he fear, the US opinion about supporting this war might change when people see these pictures. I found a link to the streams here through the link on little green footballs. I find it really hard that you see what the press serves you but after the CNN-thing with the ebassadors' daughter the last time we all should now we can't believe a single thing. It might be a fake that Iraq soldiers shot in the water while they suspected american pilots in there, these prisoners of war might be a fake by Iraq.... and I still have no idea, what the german media make up as speciality for our taste.

British Soldiers killed by "friendly fire"
Sources say that some British soldiers were killed by friendly fire from a patriot rocket. The german CNN, N-TV reports it here.

Prisoners of War - are they true or fake?
On german TV, N-24 shows a video from Al-jazeera where they interview Prisiners of War who claim to come from the United States, mostly Texas and New Jersey. The people look absolutely scared and seem to be injured. By one we don't believe he is an American, because he has an accent, but two others look completely believable.
The reporter ssays, the pictures are not yet shown on american TV, I have no idea about the Brits. The news contradict each other, in one minute the Iraq claims to have prisoners, the next one, they deny it.
The Al-jazeera rerporter talked to the prisoners and asked them some questions. From the prisoners one looks like they frightened the shit out of her and the other looks like he's under drugs. The third one just looks like he's not an american. (How many american human shields are over there?) All of them cerntainly are under worst shock.
I'm still hunting for the stream, but I can't find it on Al jazeeras site and n-24 doesn't provide it (yet), also. As many know, I don't support this war, but what is running wrong over there? I was at least hoping it will be short and finished, but it doesn't look like it.
